Biru

Although the restaurant isn't new, we just discovered it. Sushi Ya in kennewick turned out to be a great spot. So many tasty looking things that we've bookmarked them for our next visit.

We had a nice Japanese beer to go with it. Asahi was light and fresh, a perfect compliment to the food. Very fresh and easy to drink.

We were able to pick up a six pack at the local beer shop for less than a ten spot, so we'll have some on hand.

Entertainingly, it's brewed in Toronto by Molding. They claim an Asahi supervisor is watching over and keeping it legit.

Can you dig it?

Belhaven Scottish ale... In a can.

It was really lovely to watch as the head rose up in the glass as it was poured. I wasn't quick enough with the camera. It has a bit of hoppiness but there was a dominant flavor we couldn't peg. I thought it tasted a bit like a wet towel. It was smooth and overall mellow.

Not bad enough to pour down the sink, but we wouldn't spend another $4.50 for a second can.

Let's get together

Collaboration not litigation.

Two breweries had the same named beers, but they were worlds apart. This is a unique collaboration result. They were both called Salvation, but rather than fight eaxhother the teamed up to blend the two.

This beer was a really unique brew. It initially tastes like a Belgian, bit it finishes like a hefe. Very fresh and different.

Can't we all just get along?

Beer worth voting for

This blog entry could practically write itself.

Tonight we undertook that periodic process of expressing our opinions of which political candidate is the lesser evil or lesser idiot. Sometimes it is a very tough call.

To assist in our final hashing through of platform statements and voter pamphlets, it seemed a nice strong beer was on order.

We had bought this label with Halloween in mind, but this occasion seemed even scarier. This was Nick Stafford's Nightmare Yorkshire porter. We found it smooth, slightly creamy with a little chocolate smokiness. Very nice; nothing to fear.

Now if only someone could explain why the coroner is a partisan position.

We've got it made

Ninkasi was apparently the Sumerian goddess of fermentation. That follows. Tonight's brew was their Maiden the Shade specialty ale. It had a fresh and complex nose. With an ibu of 72 it was definitely on the hoppy and bitter. $5.99 For a big bottle. Very nice ale, and a good complement to the cornbread.

Oatmeal for dinner

We split a lovely bottle of Ninkasi's Oatis oatmeal stout with dinner. It had a pleasant hoppiness with a smooth creamy roastiness. Nice and balanced - very drinkable. $4.50 For a big bottle makes this an easy winner.

Scarecrow for Halloween

Since it's seasonally appropriate and we've picked this up a few times now, I thought I'd give a shout out for the Scarecrow ale by Wychwood in the UK. A very nice balanced, thoroughly drinkable beer.
